For teachers

What SideKrew School shows your students, what it never does, and how its help works.

On this page

What your students see

  • One list of their work from Google Classroom: assignments, due dates and whether each one is turned in, plus your announcements and class materials.
  • Work done in class or on paper tucked into a Class activities row, so it isn’t shown as missing.
  • Upcoming tests found in your posts, with a few short practice sessions before them.
  • Reminders at times the student picks, never during the school day.
  • In classes where you said yes: a hint-first AI helper after school, while a person on our safety team is on call.

What SideKrew School never does

  • Write to Classroom. It never posts, turns in or changes anything.
  • Give answers to assigned questions, or write essays or paragraphs.
  • Message you, or message students for you.
  • Show, store or use grades.

There’s no teacher login in the pilot.

How the AI helper works

  1. It asks what the question is asking.
  2. It gives a hint aimed at the step the student is on.
  3. After two stuck turns on the same step (“idk” counts), it works through a similar problem, never the assigned one.
  4. It gives one new similar problem to try.

When it says no, it says so in one sentence and moves the work forward. Every session starts with “I’m an AI helper, not a person” and ends with a note the student can copy to credit the help.

What it sounds like

Example: math
  1. Student

can you just give me the answer to #4? its 3x + 5 = 20

  2. AI helper · not a person

I’m an AI helper, not a person. I won’t give the answer to #4, but we can get there. What’s the question asking you to do?

  3. Student

    find x

  4. AI helper · not a person

Right. Here x is multiplied by 3, then 5 is added. What could you do to both sides first to get 3x on its own?

  5. Student

    idk

  6. AI helper · not a person

Look at the + 5. What undoes adding 5?

  7. Student

    still dont get it

  8. AI helper · not a person

    Here’s a similar one, worked out. 2x + 3 = 11. Take 3 from both sides: 2x = 8. Divide both sides by 2: x = 4. Check: 2 × 4 + 3 = 11. Now try #4 the same way. What do you get after the first step?

Example: English
  1. Student

write my paragraph about how the main character changes

  2. AI helper · not a person

I’m an AI helper, not a person. I can’t write it for you, but let’s start your first sentence. What’s your main point?

  3. Student

    she gets braver

  4. AI helper · not a person

Good. When does she first do something brave? Your first sentence can name the change and when it starts.

  5. Student

when she speaks up in class in chapter 3

  6. AI helper · not a person

Try it as one sentence: what she was like at the start, and what changes in chapter 3. Type it here when you have it.

Your class’s setting

Each class’s AI setting comes from your written answer, given through your school in the pilot agreement. If you didn’t answer, AI help is off for your class.

“Check my answer” is on only where you allowed it. It says right or wrong and why, never the corrected answer.

To change your setting, tell your school’s pilot contact. They let us know, and we update it.

Quizzes and tests

When an item is a quiz, test or assessment, or a Classroom question, the student gets practice on the topic, not help with the item itself.

SideKrew School spots tests from the wording in your posts and asks the student “Is this a test?” When it guessed wrong, the student taps No: the test and its practice plan leave their list, and Undo brings them back. You don’t need to do anything.
